Describe your current role.
At Savant, I currently manage the software teams responsible for architecting, developing, deploying, and managing the cloud strategy across Savant Systems, Inc. which includes Savant, GE Lighting, a Savant Company & Racepoint. The Savant cloud is essential for company functionality. It is used to secure remote home connectivity and backups, Savant Power Device Connectivity, the Energy, DEMRS, utility platforms, and the future Cync device connectivity and functionality. Other major projects my team and I are responsible for are savant.com, the deployment of a home portal for consumers to have system visibility, and deployment of custom design and quoting tools for the CI channel.

What accomplishment(s) are you most proud of?
I’m most proud of the innovative cloud and data platform we have developed. This platform has enabled Savant to perform complex analytics across a variety of problem spaces including energy and the smart grid, machine-learning-driven video analytics, and it is the future of deep insight for the connected home. The Savant cloud is the staple of the connected home, providing a secure, reliable, real-time connection from anywhere in the world.

What do you like best about your job?
My favorite part about this job is working in and around some of the best smart home technology on the market. It is amazing to work on a team that develops cutting-edge technology solutions in Energy, Microgrids, DERMS, Utility, Home Automation, Control, Lighting, Network, and Camera AI.

What technology are you most excited about at the moment?
I am very interested in the advancements made in Lighting, Network, Camera AI, Energy Sustainability and Storage Space. This increase in safe, reliable, and dense energy storage enables us to do more than just improve day-to-day usage for the home. We are now able to deploy systems that help communities with diversified reliably and redundant power, to improve power safety in times of crisis.

What career advice would you give to people just getting started in the CE or technology industry?
Find something that excites you, and dig in. The technology industry is so large that you can excel and distinguish yourself in a way that fits your wants and needs. Whether it be working with different types of technology or within varying roles that range from programming to sales to marketing, there is a niche for anyone who wants to apply themselves, and Savant has created a work environment where you can easily dive into your interests. Find your area of passion, dig in, and everything you learn will support that role.

What, in your opinion, is necessary for the CE/technology industry to thrive in the next five years?
I think in the next five years there will be an increased focus on expanding solutions in the environmental space — solutions like energy independence, light, and air quality — shifting improvements from control to improving health and wellness in the home.
