Dealerscope Insider Talk Welcomes Gadget Guy Steve Greenberg

Along with the new book and regular television appearances, Greenberg is also hosting a new gameshow on YouTube show called "What the Heck is that?!"

Steve Greenberg has been referred to as an invention groupie and once you chat with him for a while you clearly see why. Greenberg recently wrote a book about America’s garage inventors, called GADGET NATION: A Journey Through The Eccentric World of Invention and has an enthusiasm and curiosity about gadgets that simply can’t be matched.

Toss in the fact he’s on the board the United Inventors Association (UIA) and each month he can be seen demonstrating innovative products on television programs such as BC’s Today Show, CBS’s Early Show, ABC’s World News This Morning and World News Now, Fox & Friends, and others. He also writes for several magazines, newspapers and websites. His “Innovation Insider” features appear in the Miami Herald, Air Currents magazine, ROOMS magazine, Smart Homeowner magazine, and others.

Thus, it certainly made sense that Greenberg would be a guest on Dealerscope’s Insider Talk, hosted by Publisher Tony Monteleone and Editor-in-Chief Nancy Klosek.

Along with the new book and regular television appearances, he is also hosting a new gameshow on YouTube show called “What the Heck is that?!” So naturally, Klosek asked, what the heck is that?

“It’s an invention of the pandemic frankly,” he began. “I always wanted my own show and since no one has given me my own show, I made my own show.”

He added that since the pandemic took away a lot of his travel time, he thought a bit about what a lot of his face-to-face time was all about.

“I’d often times hold up gadgets on these shows and ask, does anyone know what this is? From that I thought it might be fun to do a gameshow off this premise, like a What’s My Line meets Shark Tank,” Greenberg explained.

He added that in each episode, panelists are shown a “mystery gadget.” It’s a new product, but its function is not known by the general public or the panelists. With Greenberg’s help, the panelists ask Yes/No questions to try to guess the identity and function of the mystery gadget.

“It’s fun to see if you can guess what it is and to see if the panelists figure it out, and then finally getting to see what the heck it is,” he said.

After engaging in a couple of rounds of What The Heck Is That? (spoiler alert: the panel was stumped on both occasions), the trio spoke about the current state of the gadget space, the upcoming CES 2021 virtual show in January and the future of CE events in general. They even touched upon the burgeoning world of bird diapers (yes, it’s exactly what you think it is). It would be a gross understatement to say that Greenberg is a lively, enthusiastic guest, covering what can sometimes be a wacky and provocative category. See the entire episode here.
