The Z-Wave Alliance standards development organization has added Vivint Smart Home, a long-time adopter of the Z-Wave wireless smart home protocol, as its latest principal member, granting them a seat on the Board of Directors under the Alliance’s new independent non-profit standards development organization (SDO) structure, which is now comprised of nine companies. The news comes as the latest update from the group supporting their move to an SDO, adding valuable legacy Z-Wave knowledge and leadership to the Alliance.

In 2020, the Z-Wave Alliance transitioned to a non-profit standards development organization and has been recruiting leaders in smart home and IoT to join the new member-driven organizational structure. The current roster of Alliance board members includes Alarm.com, Assa Abloy, LEEDARSON, Ring, Silicon Labs, StratIS, and Qolsys, most recently appointing principal member ADT in November 2020.

Vivint delivers an integrated smart home security system which includes a number of Z-Wave-certified devices across home security, access control, lighting, and more.

“Vivint is a long-time advocate of Z-Wave technology and recognizes its benefits for creating seamless user experiences for our customers,” said Jim Nye, chief product officer at Vivint Smart Home, in the announcement statement. “As we embark on a new year, we are looking forward to our partnership with the Z-Wave Alliance and to supporting Z-Wave’s growth in the larger smart home market in 2021 and beyond.”

Mitch Klein, director of strategic partnership – IoT, Silicon Labs/executive director of the Z-Wave Alliance, added: “We are delighted that Vivint has committed to driving the Z-Wave standard forward under our new member-driven SDO organization… We remain dedicated to our members and to advancing the Z-Wave technology as an open standard for smart home.”
