Director Of Global Brand Activation
Sound United
25 years in the industry

Tell us about your career so far.

I have always been passionate about movies and music. My first role in the industry was as a retail salesperson at Tweeter Home Entertainment. I have spent the last two decades educating salespeople and consumers on the benefits of a great A/V system. I have held training roles at notable manufacturers, including Yamaha, Sony, and Sound United.

Describe your current role.

I lead a global team responsible for training dealers and salespeople on how to effectively explain and demonstrate the benefits of Sound United’s wide range of audio brands and products.

When it comes to diversity and inclusion, how is the CE industry doing both historically, and also in the past year?

When I began working in the CE industry, it was rare for me to come across other minorities. However, over the past few years I have started to see more diversity in events and retail.

What could the CE industry do to improve diversity and inclusion?

I am beginning to see a lot more blacks and minorities in leadership roles in the CE industry. We need to do a better job highlighting the fact that whether you are interested in retail sales, installation, or manufacturing, there are opportunities available in this industry for everyone.

What would you tell non-black professionals in the CE industry who want to support the inclusion of black people in the industry?

Many blacks and minorities would be interested in working in the CE industry if they knew there were opportunities. More promotion at historically black schools and minorities-focused job fairs would be great.

What accomplishment are you most proud of?

My wife and I have acquired ProjectorReviews.com, which is one of the largest projector product review sites on the internet. I am proud that many people in the CE industry see me as a technical resource for both audio and video.

What technology are you most interested in at the moment?

I am quite excited about the increased availability of high-resolution streaming music. You used to have to choose between high quality and convenience, but now users can have both.

What’s the top trend in CE for you right now?

8K and high frame rate 4K content seems to be a hot topic in the CE industry. TV manufacturers are heavily promoting 8K TV. Manufacturers like Denon and Marantz are working to make sure their product’s HDMI inputs can handle the enormous bandwidth required to pass 8K video to a compatible display.

What’s your favorite gadget right now?

My favorite current gadget is the Bowers Formation Duo wireless speakers because people are amazed at their performance every time I demo them. They deliver the excellent sound quality you expect from a high-end Hi-Fi sound system without the wires and additional components.
