Gamer Girl – Xbox & Samsung Unite and Summer Gamefest Begins

Friends watching Summer Gamefest together

Welcome to the Gamer Girl column, where I cover news content about the gaming world. This week there have been updates to the Samsung Gaming Hub and the Summer Gamefest live stream that aired on June 9th.

Samsung, a well-known consumer electronics manufacturer, has just announced that Xbox will be joining the Samsung Gaming Hub. The Samsung Gaming Hub is currently available on 2022 Samsung Smart TVs including Neo QLED 8K, Neo QLED 4K, QLEDs2, and 2022 Smart Monitor Series. Now popular games like Halo and Minecraft will be available for streaming through the Xbox App on Samsung Smart TVs. One thing that always held me back from playing certain games is not having the proper console. With this new addition to the Samsung Gaming Hub, I would just need to have an Xbox account with a Gaming Pass to play the games I want. This saves me the cost of buying a console, and I would only need an Xbox controller to be able to play the games I am streaming.

In other gaming news, the famous E3 convention has been replaced by a new event called Summer Gamefest. While some people might be upset about this news, this change could be for the best. Since the pandemic shutdowns began in 2020, E3 has been canceled for 3 years in a row and there was no news if it would ever be returning. Summer Game Fest was created in 2020 to keep the gaming industry alive despite the cancelation of E3. News about the newest gaming products and consoles was shared through this online event. While E3 was one of the biggest events for gamers and gaming companies it was extremely expensive and hard to attend as tickets always sold out. The best thing about this event is that it is free and for people that can’t join the live stream, a recorded version is uploaded to their website. Summer Game Fest is partnered with Samsung Gaming Hub, Epic Games, Niantic (the creators of Pokémon Go), Bandai, and more. Another helpful section on the website has a list of other virtual gaming events that will be coming this summer. Gaming retailers and consumers can see what events are coming in the future and attend the events to keep up with the latest news from their favorite gaming companies.
