Popsockets’ Plant-based Phone Cases are Carbon Neutral and Fully Recyclable

Popsocket

Dynamic digital lifestyle and mobile accessory brand Popsockets recently unveiled its plant-based phone cases, with a distinct sustainable design.

The PlantCore phone cases from Popsockets are purpose-built for the iPhone 14. The models are compatible with MagSafe accessories, and also feature Airbag bumpers for drop protection.

The Airbag bumpers offer an extra cushion around the case, with drop protection tested up to 10 feet. Additionally, the built-in PopGrip Slide decreases the likelihood of someone dropping their phone.

Popsockets introduced the PopGrip Plant, described as a pilot series of plant-based phone grips, in 2021. The company has since made plant-based operations its long-term goal, redesigning its PopCase product to include plant-based materials.

The company curated a series of plant-based polymers that are made from corn starch, castor beans and canola oil. This new material is called PlantCore, which is what features in the PopSockets iPhone 14 cases. The phone cases are carbon neutral certified by SCS Global Services, and are fully recyclable via TerraCycle.

“With the release of iPhone 14, we wanted to provide phone users with an innovative, environmentally sustainable case option unique to PopSockets,” said Nathan Cook, PopSockets Lead Sustainable Product Design Engineer.

“Our long-term goal is to have a majority of our product ecosystem made with PlantCore. As a company, creating more solutions from plant-derived materials is just one way we’re working to fulfil our vision of a plant-based future.”

Popsockets was founded in 2014 by former philosophy Professor David Barnett. The company specialises in “empowering, expressive, and playful products that help people phone better.” The company offers cases, grips, magsafe products, wallets and mounts.

“Ever since our founder invented the PopGrip by glueing buttons to the backside of his phone, we’ve been making phone life better,” the company says.
