Honda Introduces Autonomous Work Mower
Honda has unveiled its first battery-powered electric zero-turn riding mower, known as the Autonomous Work Mower (AWM), which aims to enhance worksite efficiency through autonomous capabilities. This prototype mower will be showcased at the Equip Exposition in Kentucky and is designed to learn the entire worksite for precise lawn striping and location accuracy. It combines cutting-edge performance, operator comfort, and obstacle detection, offering an eco-friendly solution with zero emissions.
The AWM can operate both manually and autonomously, freeing up workers’ time for more valuable tasks. Honda is committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, aligning with its sustainability goals. The AWM uses a “Teaching” mode to create mowing route maps and autonomous “Playback” mode for consistent and efficient grass-cutting. It also features safety mechanisms and terrain sensing capabilities for obstacle avoidance. Honda plans to begin a pilot program in 2024 to assess the AWM’s applicability in various work environments, emphasizing its commitment to advancing the electrification of landscape maintenance equipment.
