In other news, Meta Platforms CEO Mark Zuckerberg indicated that the tech giant may be instituting another round of layoffs. During an internal Q&A session, Zuckerberg said that he was not in favor of having layers of management in the company. According to Benzinga, this could be a hint that Zuckerberg is considering a reduction in middle managers. In November, Meta conducted the largest round of layoffs in the company’s history, cutting 11,000 workers – nearly 13 percent of its global workforce.

Metas hint at more potential layoffs follows an alarming trend currently happening in the tech industry. Last month, Google’s parent company Alphabet announced its plans to cut 12,000 jobs. The decision, which was also the largest in that company’s history, was made due to concerns about the ongoing economic slowdown. Alphabet’s workforce reduction came soon after Microsoft announced a similar measure, where the company said it would be laying off 10,000 employees. Big Tech’s layoffs are likely due to the cooling of demand for consumer goods and a shift towards more strategic interests.
